Yusif & Sarah's adventures!

Standing on the Corner in {Phoenix} Arizona

Brrrr! It’s cold outside today! And rainy.  It’s funny how quick we are (us specifically, but I imagine people in general) to complain about conditions.  Yesterday on our day off it was so sunny & warm that we hid away in a movie theater all afternoon.  We watched Warm Bodies and Zero Dark Thirty.  I didn’t really like either one, for totally different reasons.  But it was kind of amazing to be still, in the dark, awake, without talking for an extended period of time.  Well, Yusif talks through movies.  He always has observations and questions – sometimes about what they said, or about the greater context of the movie.  I think it might be a cultural thing – I always look over somewhat horrified and whisper back as quickly and simply as possible.  And then shhhhh him.  Ha, someday, maybe I’ll get over trying to be a “good girl!”

Our hosts in Arizona have been fantastic – we found them both on couchsurfing.org.  Anthony came to our show at The Rogue Bar, socialized for a bit and then let us wander in later as we weren’t ready to leave yet.  He woke up pointed at the guest room and promptly went back to sleep.  He had an early day at work, but left us to relax and shower in his lovely home.  Good thing he came out to the show or we wouldn’t have even really met him!  I’m grateful that people are willing to be so trusting and open even in a world that doesn’t really pull for that these days.  And of course I’m glad we’re the trustworthy type too :)

Our current hosts are Sarah and Calvin (plus Reggie the black lab and 7 backyard chickens) – also fantastic!  Sarah comes from Hayward, CA, one of our new favorite towns from this tour.  She played the didgeridoo for us and has the most fantastic hair!  Plus her name is Sarah, and she has the mug that defines Sarah as “princess,” which I was happy to point out to Yusif.

We do miss California… the ocean and the general bustle.  LA always always calls to us, and always shows us an amazing time!  Our show at TRiP was one of the best to date.  We had new friends and old friends come out – Rob had new friends, old friends, and family come out.  I think the bar was shocked to find the place full on a Monday night full of touring bands.  When the bartender brought us the second pitcher of free beer, she was all smiles :)  The other cool thing was that everybody who we knew who came brought a friend or family member who we didn’t know.  I would even call that a double cool thing, and highly recommended behavior for all of you!

Ha, I seem to be writing all of my blogs in reverse… maybe I’ll try posting more often and then I can write in order.  We shall see.

Thanks so much to all of you who are reading this, keeping up with our journeys.  Thanks also to everybody who’s following us on facebook – it’s really fun to have a community while we’re traveling!  It can get lonely out on the road, and you help keep us happy & connected!  We love you!!!
